The Optina Elder Anatolius: “The enemy of mankind will work with such malice as to deceive, if possible, even the elect into heresy. He will not roughly reject the dogmata of the Holy Trinity, of the Divinity of Christ and of the Virginity of the Mother of God, but will inconspicuously begin to distort the doctrine of the Church as well as the very spirit of this doctrine and the articles of faith revealed to the Church Fathers by the Holy Spirit. And this cunning of the enemy will be noticed only by some few. Heretics will assume power in the Church, filling all posts with their servants, and true piety will be held in disdain.”
