Our home is in heaven

Our home is in heaven
The goal of our life is to be united to God and to live in this communion for all eternity. Eternal life begins already here on earth where God puts us to the test. The length of this test varies from life to life. We all live in different places and in different times, the number of every man’s days is determined and then our earthly pilgrimage will end. These few decades of life will pass very quickly; and, moreover, they are full of suffering, disappointment… Life on earth is but toil and trouble. God gives us His grace in this life, and if we cooperate with it – i.e. deny or humble ourselves a little, patiently bear our cross, physical or mental suffering – our heart is filled with joy which the Lord gives us. But we are always surrounded by evil, envy, various diseases, suffering or loss of our relatives and friends. This is to remind us that the earth is not our permanent place. Our home is in heaven. We are mere pilgrims here, and we know neither the day nor the hour. We really need to be mindful of eternity. We will grow old, fall ill… Just look at people in hospitals. Many suffer from terrible pains, some have their legs amputated, are confined to a wheelchair… We cannot find permanent happiness on earth. We need not envy people who are wealthy. Even if they had millions of dollars, this is no happiness.
What is true happiness? Do you think money, pleasures or a career will make you happy? What will be the end of these pleasures? What is the end of alcoholics, drug addicts or fornicators? It is often the case that the children of millionaires end up committing suicide. They had everything but found no happiness. True happiness cannot be found in a career, money or pleasures. All is vanity. Everything will pass away. True happiness lies in a pure heart where God dwells. He who has received Jesus need not fear death anymore because Jesus is his Saviour to whom he gives his sins every day and Jesus forgives him again and again. And when he dies, he will just pass over to eternal joy and attain true happiness in heaven.
