Your Eminence,

we thereby inform You of a serious scandal related to the very essence of Christian faith, which is caused by the Apostolic administrator of the Mukatschevo eparchy Bishop M. Šašík. His election to bishop as well as his appointment to Greek-Catholic bishop in Ukraine were fully under Your control. On the official website of the Mukatschevo Greek-Catholic eparchy /www.mgce.uz.ua/ this bishop has an advertisement placed for a Russian server mail.ru/Rating. After opening this hyperlink the visitor finds himself on a website propagating the issue: “Mysterious-Religion”. In particular: astrology, divination, mysticism, New Age, UFO, esoterics, parapsychology etc. These practices are contradictory to Christianity. Christianity calls this sphere occultism and a sin against the First Commandment. Holy Scriptures, Tradition of the Apostles and Fathers of the Church as well as Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2116-18) condemn all these forms of occultism.

The website of Bishop M.Šašík is publicized on the site and pages with occult subjects (astrology, magic…). Right above the hyperlink of the occult site there is a photograph of Bishop M.Šašík placed with a notice: “We welcome You on our official website”. Each visitor of this site is therefore convinced that the information and references presented here are in accordance with Catholic faith and morally harmless. However, after reading the articles advertised in this way by Bishop M. Šašík the reader comes to a conclusion that there is no difference between Christianity and paganism!

We would like to kindly remind Your Eminence that Church canons of the Councils of Eastern Churches treat the cooperation with astrologers, diviners and magicians (sorcerers) as apostasy and for this trespass they inflict the heaviest Church punishments – the same as are inflicted e.g. for a murder. In accordance with these Eastern canons Bishop M. Šašík should no longer serve the office of a bishop.

The chief crime of Bishop M. Šašík lies in the fact that by his attitude he is protecting, legalizing and propagating occultism which leads to internal apostasy and to opening oneself to a demonic influence. Bishop M. Šašík is thereby abusing and disgracing the office of a bishop.

Your Eminence, we are humbly reminding You of Your duty arising from Your office, in an official ecclesiastic way to solve this problem.
