An appeal to the people of Ireland

Dear political and religious representatives and the people of Ireland,

these days all sincere Christians of Europe are looking at You. They believe that God will work a miracle, and that through You, through Your faith and Your heroism. May You prefer in these days God’s kingdom and eternal salvation to whatever material benefits! May You not let Yourselves be broken by the pressure of intimidation or various transient promises and benefits offered to You by the EU leadership. A systematic pressure is being exerted upon You mainly by those who want to enforce dictatorship – Christianophobia – by means of the Lisbon Treaty. They thus want to accomplish liquidation of the remnants of living Christianity in Europe. Today God wants You to say a clear NO to the so-called Lisbon Treaty.

Be aware of the following realities:

1)      God sees You and hears Your “NO” to the Lisbon Treaty which abolishes God’s laws and destroys sound human conscience.

2)      You live in a historic time. Realize that it is concretely You who decide what the future Europe will be like – whether there will come a curse and catastrophe or it will give space to God that He might save souls and grant spiritual resurrection.

3)      In its essence, the Lisbon Treaty brings a decay of moral and spiritual values and a genuine Christian can by no means give his vote to it.

4)      Our Bishops’ Synod called upon the Christians of all Europe to pray for You continually – day and night. This is practically realized through so-called prayer guards. The programme is as follows: From 1st to 10th day of the month the Christians of Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland and Great Britain pray. From 11th to 20th – Christians of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic. From 21st to 30th(31st) – Christians of Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus and Malta.

5)      Bishops and priests, assume a clear attitude and set an example to Your faithful so that they stand up for God and God’s laws on the pattern of St. Patrick, who fought in faith against the powers of darkness and prevailed over them.

6)      Political representatives of Ireland, stand up for spiritual and moral values. Do not let Yourselves be deceived by a psychological and political campaign aimed at enforcement of the Lisbon Treaty.

7)      To all of You refers this prophetical word of 20th May 2009: “Thus says the Lord: Abide by My laws and the Gospel. My Son Jesus Christ died on Golgotha, that you may have eternal life. Do not pay heed to temporal good or bribes; do not reject the voice of conscience. Do not fear threats or persecution from the mighty of the earth. In the hour of your death you will answer for your decision, whether you are the President, a Member of Parliament, a bishop, a priest or a common Irish citizen.”

Bestowing upon You our blessing,

bishops of the Ukrainian orthodox Greek-Catholic Church (UOGCC)
