Presidential election and St. Procopius
President of the Czech Republic
Václav Klaus
Prague Castle
Dear Mr President,
we are additionally sending You our congratulations on Your election to head of the Czech nation.
We were painfully struck by the pre-election campaign which was disturbingly interfered in by the Catholic priest Prof. Tomáš Halík. His bad attitude towards You and his ability to distort the truth are generally known. We knew that the pre-election and election moments will be a great spiritual and psychological battle.
Concerning Your election, we have to confess that we prayed to God and asked for a mighty intercession of St. Procopius. This saint is well known, as the legend of Saint Procopius recounts, for casting out “a thousand” demons from the Czech nation. We were aware of the fact that these “thousand” demons returned in this time with still more of them and that they were going to influence our deputies during the election to promote homosexuality, euthanasia, relativism, the spirit of New Age and practical liquidation of moral and Christian principles.
But God heard our prayer. What contributed to this victory was also the powerful intercession of St. Procopius. St. Procopius lived in Sázava. His disciples were expelled from there soon after his death. We met there the same fate. Within the short period of time, while we lived there, we renewed the saint’s tomb in the crypt of the church; in the central spot of the courtyard we placed a provisional statue of the saint with a plough. Unfortunately, already for one year the place has been empty.
Mr President, we take the liberty of turning to You with one request – it concerns creation and stable placement of a statue of this saint in Sázava.
Saint Procopius and Saint Wenceslas (Czech ‘Václav’) are Czech saints. In Wenceslas’ Square one can see not only St. Wenceslas on a horse, but also St. Procopius as part of the statuary. His statue can be seen on Charles’ Bridge, too. He is often imaged with the devil harnessed in plough and ploughing a furrow. It is a deep symbol. Only a man who has great spiritual authority can use even evil forces to serve the good, but only if they are under the control of God’s reins. May God grant You as well the true wisdom and divine power that You can bind the evil forces in our nation, that eventually they will have to serve the common good.
It did not happen by chance that in these hard times it is right You, Mr President, who are to fight with these forces which destroy human mind and lead to self-destruction of the individual, family as well as of the whole nation. Be brave, all sincere citizens of CR support You!
In Christ,
Your Basilian monks,
