Declaration
To Cabinet Ministers of Ukraine
To Members of Parliament of Ukraine
Dear Ministers,
Dear Members of Parliament,
by this declaration we would like to officially inform You about the situation which has arisen in the UGCC (Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church).
In 1996 L. Husar became Head of the UGCC in an illegal way. All the then bishops of the UGCC protested against it in a so-called Memorandum written by three Metropolitans.
In 2006 Card. L. Husar published a book “Discussions with His Beatitude L. Husar: On Postconfessional Christianity” (ISBN 966-8197-10-0, ISBN 966-9197-46-1), wherein he publicly exposed his ideological programme of disintegration of the Christian faith and morals in Ukraine.
He:
1) casts doubt on the Divinity of Christ
2) casts doubt on the Virginity of the Mother of God
3) casts doubt on the eternity of hell and eternal condemnation
4) practises divination
5) propagates occultism (magic)
6) approves of homosexuality!
7) propagates reincarnation
8) casts doubt on our UGCC – the question of primacy
These heresies are a different gospel and God’s Word says: “If anyone preaches any other gospel to you, let him be accursed (anathema).” (Gal 1:8-9)
Bribery and heresies of L. Husar greatly demoralize the clergy and the common believers. Card. L. Husar is engaged in great financial machinations and bribery. For admission to seminary, for ordination or consecration, for assignment of a parish... one must pay exorbitant sums in dollars! In accordance with the canon laws, simony, i.e. bribery, is punished by deprivation of clerical state as well as of ecclesiastical dignities. For the heresies he preaches L. Husar is, according to Gal 1:8-9, excommunicated from the Church.
In this situation when Head of the UGCC L. Husar has apostatized from Christ and from the Church and leads the UGCC faithful into damnation we, monks of a religious order of pontifical right, have received – for the sake of salvation of the UGCC – episcopal consecration from orthodox Catholic bishops and established an orthodox Catholic Synod of the UGCC. Thus we obtained spiritual authority and mandate for pastoral service in our Church. We announced this step of ours to the Head of the whole Catholic Church Pope Benedict XVI and asked for his blessing. Benedict XVI has in this situation expressed his consent by his silence which lasts already for a year.
The bishops of the UGCC who were in unity with the heresies of Card. L. Husar were appealed by us to renounce his heresies as well as unity with him and to receive the orthodox Catholic doctrine and unity with the Holy Father. These bishops did not do so and therefore they have likewise fallen under the punishment of anathema according to Gal 1:8-9.
For this reason there are two parallel structures of the UGCC in Ukraine today:
1) Orthodox Catholic Synod of the UGCC (of which we are members) – preaches and protects purity of the apostolic and Catholic faith in unity with the Holy Father Benedict XVI. This Synod strives for the revival of the Church and nation through genuine conversion to Jesus and through a return to His Gospel and to unalterable Christian values in keeping with the two-thousand-year-old Church Tradition. On the ground that this Synod keeps faithful to the orthodox Church doctrine it has the mandate to lead the UGCC believers to salvation.
2) Synod of the UGCC – under the leadership of Card. L. Husar it has apostatized from the apostolic and Catholic faith and thus lost unity with the Holy Father Benedict XVI. Through the heretical and apostatic teaching of Card. Husar this Synod has apostatized from the Church, is excommunicated and thus even unable to lead the UGCC believers to salvation, despite the fact that before the state authorities it continues, though illegally, to represent the UGCC.
Dear Ministers, dear Members of Parliament, recently the words of one of the Ukrainian politicians have appealed to us very much: “There will be no renewal of the Ukrainian nation (moral, spiritual and economic) unless and until there has been a renewal in the Church!”
Card. L. Husar and his Synod have no divine power (authority) any longer despite the fact that they continue illegally usurping Church posts. This divine authority and divine power following from episcopal consecration fully rests with us. We are juridically and spiritually subordinate neither to L. Husar nor to Nuncio I. Yurkovych nor to Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches L. Sandri, who became united in heresy and apostasy from the faith in Christ. In this “state of emergency” we are subordinated directly to the Holy Father Benedict XVI! This state will last so long until the Pope globally solves the whole crisis of faith in the UGCC. The heretical Synod of the UGCC is avoiding this solution. Therefore we applied to the state authorities of Ukraine for registration of our orthodox Catholic Synod within the UGCC as of a parallel structure – lest the faithful partake of the curse which is on L. Husar and his Synod. If the registration is granted to us, the heretical Synod will be forced to responsibly deal with the critical situation in the Church, and at the same time this our registration opens the door for the Pope too to solve this situation. The heretical Synod, however, purposefully avoids this.
We believe that state organs will meet the revival efforts within the UGCC and grant the registration of the orthodox Catholic Synod.
A deterrent example of the activity of L. Husar is the case of Bishop M. Simkaylo from Kolomiya. L. Husar deceived the Pope and for a big dollar bribe consecrated a businessman and immoral priest M. Simkaylo a bishop (see Letter to M. Simkaylo).
We believe that the renewal of our Church (UGCC) will bring great moral and social good for the whole Ukrainian nation.
In Christ,
+ Markian OSBM
