Word of life - Rom 4:20-21
Word of life: “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief,
but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced
that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” (Rom 4:20-21 NKJ)
What is emphasized?
He did not waver ... through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith ... fully convinced...
Faith expresses one’s relationship to God. Concerning the promise given to Abraham, Abraham did not seek to achieve a desired effect but rather to do the will of God. It was his desire for the sake of God that the promise should be fulfilled and not be only a torso through his unbelief. He did not want God to serve his own selfish purposes in that particular matter but perceived that it was a thing of the Lord and God made him a partaker of it. Therefore, when put to the test, he did not rebel against God but his relationship with Him became even deeper – he was strengthened in faith. At a time of testing he believed in God Himself and not in the fulfilment of his desires. And that faith made him fully convinced that God Himself was the solution in that test. Therefore that attitude of his was accounted to him for righteousness. He treated God as God and himself as a servant, not vice versa.
Practical application:
In prayer, open one problem before God in which you can see no solution on a human level. Realize that God sees you. You are standing before Him and you no longer seek a human solution. Confess before Him: “You Yourself, Lord, are the solution. I believe in You alone.” Persevere and renew again and again this attitude of faith and submission to God. You will see at just the right time how the Lord intervened.
