Reflection on Jn 15:5; 15:7

Post date:   2014-12-20

In Jn 15:5, Jesus speaks about the condition and about the fruit, which is unity with Him. In verse 5, He says that He is the vine. “I am the vine.” The Greek original reads: “ego eimi” (I am). These words express the divine nature. Jesus uses the same expression when speaking about the Eucharist: “I am (ego eimi) the bread of life.” (Jn 6:48-51) “You will know that I am (ego eimi) in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” (Jn 14:20) In our prayer stops throughout this month we shall repeat the Word of God and realize the deep mystery of “Jesus being in me and I in Him”. Let us realize it by faith at least for one minute during the day.

Mission of prayer

“I was in prison and you came to Me. I was sick and you visited Me.” Christ is in us like in prison. Who keeps Him in prison? It is the system of our old self, sin in our soul. Jesus is imprisoned in me. “Lord, I want to know who is the prison guard in me, who keeps You in prison, who has charge of the keys of the prison?! Is it spiritual bondage, addictions, blindness, laziness or self-will?” We do not even visit Jesus in this prison. That is why we need to launch out into the deep and meet Jesus there.

Reflection on Jn 15:4

Jesus sets a condition: “If you abide in Me…” If we are to abide in Christ, we first need to unite to Him. If we are separated from Him by unbelief, self-will, hedonism, criticism or other sins or vanities, we must enter into actual unity with Him anew. That is why we need interior prayer in which we are first purified through repentance and then give ourselves and our problems to Jesus, become united to Him by faith and, as a result of this unity with Him, make steps of faith.

Patriarch Elijah’s message for the Feast of Christ the King

Post date:   2014-11-22

Ask yourself each: Is Jesus the King in the kingdom of my soul? Is He really the King there? If we have not received the kingdom of God, He is not the King there. Jesus says that we should seek first the kingdom of God and all other things will be added to us. So the first thing is to seek the kingdom of God. Jesus is the King in the kingdom of God. Who is the king in the kingdom of this world? The prince of this world. Jesus speaks about the truth while the kingdom of the devil is built on lies. Jesus is the Truth, as He says Himself: “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” (Jn 18:37)

Jesus says: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Jesus says: “…My peace I give to you; not as the world gives…” Do you want to have peace which the world cannot give? Only Jesus gives such peace. Jesus gives peace and joy in suffering and persecution to those who come to Him! He says: “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest (peace) for your souls.” (Mt 11:28-29)

Patriarch Elijah’s message on the Feast of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary

We celebrate the feast of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary. The Word of God says: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Jesus said the same words at the end of the Sermon on the Mount which begins with the Beatitudes and ends with the parable of two men who built a house. One man built a house on the sand and the other on the rock. Those who hear the word of God but do not keep it build on the sand. Those who hear the word and put it into practice build on the rock. This reveals the essence of the way of our salvation.

Reflection on Jn 14:26

“He will bring to your remembrance…” We can know the whole Scripture by heart, we can have a large amount of information like a computer, but that’s not essential. We need the right information at the right time, and this information may be much useful or it can even save life. We need to project it on the screen of our mind. This reviving in the spiritual sphere is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of Christ is no human philosophy or human wisdom. The words of Jesus are the Spirit and life. They are simple and call for action. It is not enough to hear them and lead religious discussions. That’s too little. We need to actualize Jesus’ commandments.
