The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith condemned two main and widely spread books by John Sobrino, a Jesuit from San Salvador. The Congregation named six thematic complexes in which the statements of John Sobrino are not in compliance with the teaching of the Catholic Church.
In defence of J. Sobrino there stood up – among others – the German theologian Peter Hünermann (Herder Korrespondenz, 4/2007) who referring to the contemporary Catholic and Evangelic exegetes (adherents of historic-critical theology /HCT/) claims that the Congregation, the Pope as well as the hitherto faith of the Church are mistaken and that Sobrino along with these modern so-called theologians are right. These de facto claim that Jesus Christ is not true God and true man nor the only Saviour.
We ask all cardinals and bishops to urge His Holiness Benedict XVI to give Sobrino, Hünermann and all theologians who have the same spirit of apostasy a similar ultimatum as John Paul II gave to Archbishop M. Lefebvre.
They will either publicly renounce the spirit of heresy and apostasy, confess the Apostolic and Catholic faith, or they will be excommunicated from the Catholic Church! They are real enemies of the Mystical Body of Christ – the Church.
By this step those little and defenceless ones in the Church will be saved from the danger of being misled to the way leading to eternal condemnation.
