The supreme law of the Church is the salvation of the immortal souls. Therefore it is self-evident that the primary mission of the Church is to protect the purity of faith leading to salvation. This faith and its foundations are being eroded by sins and heresies related to the First Commandment of the Decalogue and endangering the salvific faith in Jesus Christ. For this reason it is inevitable that the Church, regardless of the change of time and public opinion, should apply canonical punishments for these delinquencies against the faith.
